About Me

My photo
Heidi Verdonck
Brussels, Belgium
I have been living and working as a journalist/researcher in Brussels since 1999. My specialities are the Jewish communities around the world, Islam, the arab world and North-Africa. I also made numerous reports on the situation of women and religious minorities in the Muslim world. In 2006, I published the book "The Jews of Morocco. Two thousand years of history and culture". During the research for this book, I stayed in Morocco during eight months. I heard about the important Jewish community living in Morocco while I was visiting Essaouira /Mogador in 2004. Since then, the subject of the Jews in the Muslim world, kept on fascinating me. For my book about the Jews of Morocco, I worked closely together with collector Paul Dahan in Brussels and the Special Collections of the university of Leiden (Netherlands). Currently, I am doing research on the Jewish community of Tangier at the end of the 19th century. My education: Master in Psychology - University of Ghent (Belgium) 1993. Since then, my passions are traveling and discovering other languages and cultures. 1997: Degree in Political Science
